Ways to bail out ailing small & cottage industries |

Dhaka-(UNB) – The National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh yesterday submitted a 10-point charter of recommendations, including special budgetary allocation, to the government for bailing out ailing small-scale industries. A NASCIB delegation, led by its president Ainul Huq Shohel, put forward the suggestions to Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil as they called on the minister at his office. The delegation apprised the minister of the sector’s problems. The NASCIB recommendations included introducing special credit scheme and simplified credit policy, establishing separate bank or leasing company, special measures for sick industries, retaining 10 per cent of the total industrial credits for small industries and inclusion of NASCIB representative in the self-employment and poverty projects. Assuring government support for implementation of the recommendations, Jalil said the government had already taken necessary steps to rehabilitate the sick industries through removing anomalies in the duty structure. “Many of the local industries fell sick owing to wrong policies by the post-’75 governments,” he said. The commerce minister said the government would provide all supports, including infrastructure facilities, for the development of the small industries to accelerate industrialisation and add new products to the export basket. |
